Balancing Act: Navigating Life, Hobbies, and Dreams

An ’Imperfect’ Balance! : Balancing Act: Navigating Life, Hobbies, and Dreams

Life isn’t always a perfect picture. It can actually be compared to a road full of potholes and unexpected drizzles of rain. So, a state of balance is quite difficult to maintain or even achieve at that! So, it’s ok not to be ok. At least that’s what my mom tends to say (she is the epitome of positivity). But, when I come to think about this notion, it becomes particularly hard for me to accept and imbibe. Why? Well, because, I’m human. And you are too, my dearest reader. Being human comes with it’s perks and it’s negatives.

Therefore, when it comes to striking a seemingly perfect balance between your life and your hobbies, this very beam balance can tip over to any side even at the slightest bit of miscommunication or misunderstanding. For me, though, being a writer and being a student isn’t and I’m sure will never be a serious problem.

This is because being an author and a student actually go hand in hand. Learning how to navigate through student hood isn’t as hard as most pupils think it is. All you need to do is know when to study and when to pursue whatever hobby you have, be it writing, singing, playing sports etc.

In my daily life, my routine is as follows:

I go to school, get back home, rest and then I attend any extra-curricular classes I have such as French, Kathak, or singing, and afterwards I manage to study for a little bit. Yeah, simple right. Well, sometimes things get pretty hectic.

To give a fair share of time to everything, I like to prioritize my time. I know, I know, this is something everyone’s parents tell them but, let me tell you, it really works. It’s probably the easiest way to get everything done in minimum time. Allot specific periods of time for everything you have to get done before a certain time and well, you’re basically good. For example, you could decide to finish off a lesson in science by 4: 15 and then practice singing for an hour after. This method has truly helped me get through work ten-times faster and ten times more efficiently. It’s truly like magic!

Again, another method I think works is taking the time to actually relax. Taking breaks when you need to and just taking some time for yourself is so very important. Not relaxing turns you crazy. I’ve learnt this the hard way. So, make sure that when you feel tired, you get the rest you deserve.

There are times when I seriously do contemplate my life decisions and feel like things aren’t working out but, even then, I try to think of the bigger picture. That being, a future where I can pursue my dreams whilst actually being able to pursue my career. And in the end, I do get through it. Trust me, fighting for what you love is worth it even when it doesn’t seem like it.

So, really the advice I give to myself during these kinds of crises and now that I’m passing on to you is to never ever give up. However, hard it may seem and however, burnt out you feel. DON’T GIVE UP. It’s alright to take a break but, one day you will look back and say, ’Wow, I really did do that.’ In the end, it’ll all be worth it.
