Contest Terms and Conditions

Thank you for your interest in the 2nd Season of "Once Upon In Our Minds" Short Story Contest! These terms of use set out important information applicable to the Contest so please read them carefully.

Participant eligibility

  • Participant must be the only writer of the story.

  • Category 1 - Participants must be aged 5 years or over on 15th August 2023 and 8 years or under as on 30th September 2023.

  • Category 2 - Participants must be aged 9 years or over as on 15th August 2023 and 12 years or under as on 30th September 2023.

  • Category 3 - Participants must be aged 13 years or over as on 15th August 2023 and 16years or under as on 30th September 2023

  • Participants can be citizen of any country.

Story Submission

•Entries should be submitted in English language only

•Multiple entry can be submitted by a single writer; however, one story will be accepted per registration.

•Entry should be submitted digitally by copying and pasting it into the entry form

•Any story submitted as an entry written by two or more writers will not be eligible.

•Story must be participant’s own original creation, fictional and not currently or previously have been the subject of a publishing agreement with any publisher.

•There are no restrictions on setting, genre, or theme.

•Entries must be unpublished and remain unpublished in any language until 31st October 2025. Plagiarism will not be tolerated.

•Simultaneous submissions in multiple contests are eligible as long as the Participant informs the organizers immediately if the story is selected for publication elsewhere or be selected for a prize. All communication needs to be via email only.

•Category 1 - Entries must be 399 words minimum (not including title), no word limit for maximum.

•Category 2 - Entries must be 699 words minimum (not including title), no word limit for maximum.

Category 3 - Entries must be 1999 words minimum (not including title), no word limit for maximum.

•The writer’s details should be included on the entry form. They must not be given anywhere in story. All entries are judged anonymously.

Judging

•The story should demonstrate quality in terms of engagement with topic of the story.

•All entries will be judged by panel of authors, psychologists and literature scholars.

•The decision of the judges and the organizers will be final

Prizes

•Participants agree as a condition of entry that the prize organisers may publicise the fact that a story has been entered or shortlisted for the Prize.

•Best stories in the category will be published in an anthology and for promotional purposes.

•The shortlisted writers, and the winners will be expected to take part in publicity activities including social media where possible.

•All participants will be awarded with a certificate of appreciation by Kubic Online & RidhzWorld Publishing.

•Participation certificates will be emailed to the email address shared during the entry form.

•The shortlisted writers, and the winners will be expected to take part in publicity activities including social media where possible.

Copywrite

•Worldwide copyright of each story remains with the writer. Writer will have the unrestricted right to re-publish the winning story after 31st October 2025.

•All the best stories will be published in an anthology. Organizers hold the rights of the book publication, distribution, promotion and sales globally.

•The participants and their legal guardians on their behalf waive any right to royalties, payment or other consideration arising from or related to the use of the submitted entries

•The participants and their legal guardians on their behalf grant to the Organizer for free the worldwide non-exclusive right for the whole term of copyright, to use, edit, alter, copy, exhibit, reproduce, adapt, publish or distribute and redistribute the entries in full or part for purposes of publicizing the Organizer’s programmes or for any other lawful purpose and communicate to the public, worldwide, in any language in printed and electronic format, the whole or any part of the submitted short stories.

•The participants and their legal guardians on their behalf grant the organizer the right to use their name, photograph, image, or likeness in the context of any recording, any presentation, speech or other form of publicity in connection with the competition.

•We have the right at any time during the competition to request proof of birth, originality of the story, and to disqualify your entry if you cannot provide the requested proof.

•Participant’s story, along with their name, city, school name and country of residence, and portions of your entry which relate to the submitted story, may be posted on any website owned or operated by us or any of our affiliates, any other website or online point of presence on any platform through which any products or services available on or through our site are described, syndicated, offered, merchandised, or advertised.

•Organizer's decision to post an excerpt or any portion of an entry on any one of our sites does not mean that the selected entry has been selected as a winning entry.
